Where to see the Fireworks!

A classic family tradition is to gather around on a picnic blanket and watch a fireworks show in July!  Not only is it safer than lighting your own fireworks, it’s an exciting event for both youngsters and adults.

This year in Central Kentucky, we have a couple of fabulous fireworks shows lined up.  Now this list is NOT all of the festivities across the Bluegrass, but just a few you may want to check out.

Neighborhood Insights: Southland

Southland is a beautiful neighborhood and community center nestled between the Broadway and Nicholasville Road Spokes in Lexington, Kentucky.  Best known to tourists as an eclectic shopping district, Southland is home to unique retail spaces – favorite local restaurants – and great locally owned service centers.  To the north and south of Southland Drive are close knit neighborhoods of classic ranch, split-level, and cape cod style homes.  If that classic red brick and big trees is your idea of ‘home sweet home’ then this area is for you!

Thanks to the Southland Association – there have been some beautiful changes and developments to this area as well!  Southland is the main location of the Lexington Farmer’s Market every Sunday between April and October.  In the winter, Southland holds it’s own beautiful tree lighting event in front of the fire station of a gorgeous 15 foot white fir tree. There are also murals and two commercial rain gardens to enjoy – and bike lanes, bike lanes, bike lanes!!

Just last year – in 2015 – the annual Southland Street Fair began!  We had the pleasure of attending this year’s event last weekend – and many of you came out to join us!

Vendors from all over the area came and set up booths and activities along Southland Drive in front of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the Good Foods Co-op.  Ice cream, kettle corn, inflatables, face painting, live music, and more – activities for both young and old to enjoy.

Here’s some photos from the event – we hope you all were join us next year!  Or, looking for a unique shopping or day out on the town?  Take a day trip around Southland Drive!

Vote for Missy: Dancing with the Lexington Stars 2016

The Rotary Club of Lexington presents it’s annual Dancing with the Lexington Stars!  A black tie evening event and an exciting competition which pairs local celebrities with professional dancers in support of two wonderful charities. All proceeds from this event will once again benefit Surgery On Sunday, Inc. & the Lexington Rotary Club Endowment Fund.

As part of the process, Missy Ward was interviewed on why she felt driven to donate her time and charity to this event.  See her interview below!

“I decided to participate in DWLS because I love to dance, although I am very clumsy.  I thought I could build further awareness and raise money for Surgery on Sunday and Rotary.  I love Lexington and the giving heart of this community.”  She jokes, “and I think they ran out of people to ask.”

Missy was a radio personality for 25 years.  She worked as a morning show cohost with country great Karl Shannon and her friend, Kruser.  She was  also the hoost of the  Motorvation Motorcars show for 11 years.  She’s now a top producing agent affiliated with Rector Hayden REALTORS.

To prepare, Missy is scheduling massages and  footbaths between her samba lessons.  She knows the road ahead is a rough one, though.

“Have you seen those outfits?  I won’t be able to eat until May,” Missy joked.

Missy is always joking around and never ceases to put a smile on everyone’s face.  She’s constantly bubbling with sunny energy, and we’re honored that she’ll be participating in such a great event!

If you’d like to support this cause and help donate to Surgery on Sunday – please pair your donation with a vote for Missy Ward!  Votes are ONLY $5 and easy to give via paypall!

TOPSinLex – Real Estate Edition

This Month’s edition of TOPSinLexington was all about Real Estate!  ( Hey, we’re all about that, too!! )

[slider interval=”4500″ controls=”true” pause=”hover” wrap=”true”] [slide title=”” image=”https://news.rhr.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/47/2016/05/rhrspread_maytops.jpg” active=”active”][/slide] [slide title=”” image=”https://news.rhr.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/47/2016/05/SusanHammett_maytops.jpg”][/slide] [slide title=”” image=”https://news.rhr.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/47/2016/05/TMG_maytops.jpg”][/slide] [slide title=”” image=”https://news.rhr.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/47/2016/05/HAG_maytops.jpg”][/slide] [/slider]

We feature some of our top agents and listings each month in the luxurious print edition of TOPSinLexington.  However it was fabulous to celebrate even more of our agents in this month’s issue!

Leading the pack of TOPSinLex Series called “Real Estate Rock Stars,” was our very own Mateyoke Group!  Jenny Mateyoke & Heather Kuykendoll are consistent Top Producers – not only for Rector Hayden but also as part of the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of REALTORS.

“The real estate market is really booming in Central Kentucky.  Buyers need to be ready to act quickly and be prepared by getting pre-approved for a mortgage!” – Jenny M.

“Jenny & Heather were great.  We enjoyed working with them every step of the way on selling our home and buying our new home.  We would highly recommend them.  They were very professional and knowledgeable.  You can’t ask for a better team!!” – Kristie & Breck, recent clients.

We’re also very proud of a newer agent with our company, Susan Saunier Hammett, and her featurette in this series as well!  Susan works as part of The Jubilee Team at Rector Hayden, another top producing group.

“Rector Hayden is a great company to work with and their office support staff is absolutely the best!” – Susan H.

Aw, shucks, Susan.  We think you’re pretty awesome, too!!

And guess who else showed up to the party this month – our fantastic auction team – THE HALFHILL AUCTION GROUP.  The Halfhills + John Sanders + Gary Denton (two more fine agents with our company) worked to help bring in donations for the Living Arts & Sciences Center at their event “H’Artful of Fun.”  You can see more photos of that event on the TOPS website by clicking the image below!
