Old Fashioned Independence Day Celebration

Celebrate Independence Day with watermelon and lemonade historical lawn games, scavenger hunt and live music.

Liberty Hall will open its doors to the community on Tuesday, July 4th to welcome the public to its annual free community event, An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Special guest Abigail Quammen, Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen, will be on hand to lead a sing-a-long and other activities will include children’s games with prizes, old-fashioned lawn games, intended for all age levels. A scavenger hunt inside Liberty Hall will entertain the kids and be a way to get to know one of Frankfort’s most iconic historic sites.

Free watermelon and lemonade will be on hand, and you can have your photo taken with Mr. Froggy from 104.9 FM. Beat the heat with a “run through the sprinklers” as Liberty Hall once again will turn on its large irrigation system on the lawn of the Orlando Brown House.

Returning this year is the Patriotic Pedal Parade. The community is encouraged to decorate their bicycles, wagons, children’s strollers, and any other non-motorized vehicle and enter them in the contest for a chance to win special prizes. The parade will be at 2:30 p.m., so be sure to get to the staging area in front of Liberty Hall by 2:15 p.m.

Bring a blanket and enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the grounds of Liberty Hall, a National Historic Landmark, and former home of Senator John Brown.

Admission to the event is free, and is sponsored by CapCity Communications and Froggy 104.9 FM. For more information, call Liberty Hall at (502) 227-2560, visit www.libertyhall.org, or on Facebook.
