KY Bank Tennis Championships

Top ranked touring tennis professionals come from all over the world to compete in the KY Bank Tennis Championships, a USTA Challenger.

What:  A $75,000 USTA Pro Circuit men’s tournament and a $60,000 USTA Pro Circuit women’s tournament.

What is the USTA Pro Circuit?

The USTA has 94 tournaments throughout the country and prize money ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, the USTA Pro Circuit is the pathway to the US Open and tour-level competition for aspiring tennis players and a frequent battleground for established professionals. On average, more than 1,100 men and women from 79 countries compete on the USTA Pro Circuit annually for more than $3 million in prize money and valuable ATP and WTA Tour ranking points.

Mission of The Tournament: Lexington Challenger Tennis Charity, Inc. was organized in 2012 by a core group of conscience minded citizens with the purpose to raise charitable funds to benefit the local and state community. The idea initiated with the opportunity to generate money through a key event – the Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships, a USTA Pro Circuit Tennis Tournament for Men and Women. This event along with many other fundraising throughout the year will provide the resources to disperse funds to other charities in the community that operate with like minded missions. The Charity plans to generate financial support to benefit other established charities with an emphasis on education and assistance to further healthy living to individuals and groups in the community. It is the goal of the Charity to use its time and efforts to highlight the necessity that people must maintain healthy lifestyles with emphasis on sports to increase their life expectancy and minimize health problems. The Charity also supports the idea that assisting organizations with funding to create, maintain and improve facilities in the community that promote physical activity, the community as a whole can improve their health and well being. Therefore, the Charity will select like charities to contribute proceeds raised through the USTA tournament and other fundraising activities.

Supplemental Events include:  Kid’s Day on Aug. 1, Ladies’ Night on Aug. 1, Parent/Child Tournament on Aug. 3 and Men’s Night on Aug. 4

Who:  The Wall Street Journal referred to our event as “…many of today’s tennis stars first drew notice at this event. The Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships draws the next wave of athletes.” John Isner, James Blake, Tommy Haas, Lleyton Hewitt, Katarina Srebotnik, Justin Gimmelstob and many others have played in our tournament.

Why:  Our tournament is designed to create opportunities for young tennis players to enter the pro tour. We also hope to create money for local charities and provide local tennis enthusiasts an opportunity to watch professional tennis.

♫ Chamber Music: Mediterranean Portraits

The Lexington Chamber Orchestra, with music director Jan Pellant, is joined by UK Professor of Flute Julie Hobbs for Ernest Bloch’s “Suite Modale”.

The program also includes Reza Vali’s “Funebre” and Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence”.

Mr. Vali was born in Ghazvin, Persia (Iran) and is now a professor of composition at Carnegie Mellon University.

Madness is the first open practice opportunity for UK’s 2016-17 men’s and women’s basketball team!

Tickets for the 2016 Big Blue Madness in Rupp Arena will be available on Friday, Sept. 30 at 10 p.m. at the Memorial Coliseum ticket windows on Avenue of Champions and online at Ticketmaster.com

This event will be televised live by the SEC Network.

Doors open at 5:30pm

Photography is restricted to non-professional point & shoot style cameras from assigned seat. No commercial photography of any kind is permitted. Cameras with detachable lenses are prohibited. Flash photography, video cameras or any other audio/visual equipment is prohibited. GoPro, tablets and ipads are prohibited.

 

There is a strict limit of 2 tickets in place. Please adhere to published ticket limits. If you exceed the ticket limit, you may have any or all of your orders and tickets cancelled without notice. Relay for Life is a six-hour walk and fundraiser for the American Cancer Society with a live and silent auction, entertainment, etc. A Luminary Service will be held a 10:00 p.m. and the walking track will be lined with lighted luminaries representing those who lost the battle with cancer and celebrating those who have survived.

Francisco’s Farm Arts Festival – Midway, KY

The Midway Renaissance proudly presents the 2016 Francisco’s Farm Arts Festval at Midway University. The festival will feature over 90 artists from Kentucky and across America. Bluegrass Greensource presents GreenFest 2016, a one-day sustainable living festival featuring green living workshops and resources, eco-inspired activities for kids, community booths and green vendors, and food trucks, music and local beer. Bluegrass Stockdog Trials & The Sheep and Fiber Festival

The famous Bluegrass Classic Stockdog Trial will once again be held at Lexington’s Masterson Station Park on May 18-22, 2016, marking 54 years of border collie trials in the Bluegrass. This competition is one of the longest-running, largest, and most prestigious trials in the country. The competition draws top handlers from across the USA and Canada, as well as hundreds of local spectators. The Bluegrass Classic dates from at least 1960, and was held for many years at Walnut Hall Farm. It has been a favorite event at the Kentucky Horse Park, and then in Masterson Station Park since 1996. This event involves fabulous opportunities for photography involving dogs, sheep, people, and horses, all in the picturesque setting of Masterson Station Park. As a non-profit event we offer free admission to all, and we appreciate all forms of publicity that will make the community aware of the opportunity to watch these wonderful dogs at work.

Families and spectators are invited to bring their own dogs. Bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets, and enjoy the outdoors! The event runs continuously from dawn until dusk and there are spectator raffles, lunchtime concessions, numerous vendors and cold drinks available.

The 7th annual Kentucky Sheep & Fiber Festival, a natural fiber and local food event, showcases some of the nation’s finest fiber artists, yarn, products the Kentucky sheep and agriculture community and Kentucky Proud food producers. Once again, this year’s festival will include a series of classes, workshops and demonstrations in the fiber arts.
