Cellphone use by pedestrians is linked to an increased risk for incidents and injuries.
To stay safe:
- ✔ Stop and move out of the way of other pedestrians if you need to use your cellphone.
- ✔ Stay aware of your surroundings all the time.
- ✔ Avoid using headphones or earbuds while walking, especially in high-traffic areas.
- ✔ Before stepping off the curb to cross a street, look both ways for oncoming vehicle and bicycle traffic.
- ✔ Make eye contact with motorists and cyclists before stepping into the crosswalk.
- ✔ Use handrails when walking up and down stairs.
