Big Band & Jazz 2017

Big Band & Jazz, one of Lexington’s longest running and most beloved concert series, features great jazz and big band music weekly. 

The May and June concerts will be held at Moondance at Midnight Pass Amphitheatre in Beaumont Circle.  Bring your lawn chairs or blankets for seating. 

Kite Fest

Celebrate National Kite Month and Parks & Recreation’s first major outdoor event of the season. Free activities will include kite flying, children’s games, special entertainment, kite making and more. This year entertainment will include a magician and an obstacle course. Food vendors will be on-site throughout the day or families may pack a lunch and picnic in the park.

Community Spring Fest

Bethel Harvest Church’s Community Spring Fest has drawn more than 5,000 people to the church grounds in previous years.

This community event is open to the public and offers free family-friendly activities throughout the afternoon including Easter egg hunts scheduled by age groups, inflatables, face painting, balloon animals, games, & more. Local restaurants and food trucks will offer a variety of food for purchase and arts & crafts vendors will be on hand to promote their goods and services. The church asks that those attending bring one canned good for admission to the event. The canned goods will go toward the Bethel Harvest food bank. The church will be supplying 2,000 eggs.

Egg hunt times are as follows: 0 – 3 years 1 pm 4 – 7 years 2 pm 8 – 11 years 3 pm

Kids Club Family Day @ Keeneland

The KEENELAND KIDS CLUB is the Official Kids Club for Keeneland fans 12 and younger.

During the race meet, Kids Club members and their families are invited to enjoy a special day at the races by receiving free general admission and access to reserved Grandstand seating. Children’s activities will take place in the North Terrace from noon to 3 p.m.

College Scholarship Day @ Keeneland

College Scholarship Day offers a free, fun day at the races for thousands of college and university students from Kentucky and beyond.

Admission is free with a college ID.

Full-time students can register to win one of ten $1,000 scholarships and prizes from local vendors awarded after each of the day’s races. Students also will enjoy music, free snacks and prize drawings in Keeneland’s College Zone in the North Terrace.

Keeneland hosts College Scholarship Day in partnership with the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association. The program began in October 2002 and has distributed nearly $600,000 in Kentucky, including nearly $300,000 at Keeneland.

 

College Scholarship Day Facts:

  • Ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded following each of the day’s races, in partnership with Kentucky Thoroughbred Association (KTA).
  • Free general admission with college ID at East Gate & South Gate
  • Registration begins at 11 a.m. in the College Zone at The North Terrace

 

College Scholarship Day Rules:

  • Each student must currently be enrolled FULL TIME at a college, university, technical school, trade school, or other such school that qualifies for federal aid. Each student must be present to win.
  • There will be 10 drawings, nine from the general pool and one from the Thoroughbred Industry pool. One drawing will be made immediately after each of Keeneland’s 10 races, with the Thoroughbred Industry Drawing after the tenth race. 
  • After each drawing, the winner’s name will be posted on the digital signs located at the East and South Gates and at the registration table in the College Zone. Keeneland will attempt to call or text each student to notify them.
  • When a student hears or sees their name, please report back to the registration table in North Terrace area for validation.
  • Check the signs at the East and South Gates or the registration table in the College Zone at the end of the day to make sure you have not missed your name.   Names of winners for scholarships and other prizes will all be listed.

Central KY Concert Band Presents: Music for Prague 1968

The premier adult concert band in the commonwealth!

The Central Kentucky Concert Band presents the very powerful and dynamic Music for Prague 1968 as its center piece for War and Remembrance. The selection recounts in a personal and thought-provoking arrangement the Soviet Union’s invasion of Prague in August, 1968. In addition to other selections, the group will also feature the music from the HBO series, “Band of Brothers”.
