Owl Night Hike

Learn about the owls of Central Kentucky and experience them in person on a night hike! Members of the Central Kentucky Audubon Society will share their knowledge during a hike through The Arboretum and into the woods where hikers will try to catch a peak at the mysterious birds. Departing from the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m. bring binoculars and flashlights.

Recommended for ages 7+.

This program is completely outdoors; make sure to dress in warm layers. 

Suggested donation: $3 per person or $5 per family.

Kids Fishing Derby

The Richmond Parks and Recreation Department and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife present the Free Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 3rd. Children 16 and under are invited to participate. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Lake Reba Boat Dock. No Early Birds Please. The Derby will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. All participants should be accompanied by an adult and bring their own fishing equipment. The goal of this program is to promote fishing as a sport. Door prizes will be given out to lucky participants throughout the event. Richmond Parks and Recreation makes no claim to the number of fish that may or may not be caught.

Lexington’s Bluegrass BBQ Festival

The region’s top barbecue pitmasters will head to downtown Lexington – and everyone will eat – at the inaugural Big Ass® Bluegrass BBQ FEST and hosted by Smiley Pete Publishing.

Bike Lexington Family Fun Ride

Free registration begins at 8:00am at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza on Short Street and Limestone

The Family Fun Ride caters to all cycling levels and skills on two wheels.  The route will provide a safe shortcut for children on tricycles and training wheels that directs back to the starting point, where children can ride safely in the Car-Free Kid Zone.  Free registration and tons of fun activities!

Free Friday Flicks

Free Friday Flicks at Jacobson Park will be showing recently released feature films in the park for FREE! Pre-movie activities include children’s games and a petting zoo. Celebrating 21 years, Flicks offers a great evening of entertainment for all ages. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Food vendors will also be on-site. For safety, pets are not permitted. The event is presented by Lexington Parks & Recreation, ABC 36 and Don Jacobs.

7pm there will be activities for kids and patrons attending the movie, once the sun goes down the movie will begin.
