Safety Tip – Preventing Sprains and Strains

Sprains and strains are among the most common workplace injuries. They can result from lifting, being hit by a falling object, missing a step or tripping, or overusing a specific muscle group. To reduce your risk of sprains and strains at work, keep these tips in mind:
- ✔ Follow safe lifting practices
- ✔ Reduce repetitive movements if possible; chronic strains are usually the result of overuse
- ✔ Use proper form whil completing tasks; extensive gripping can increase the risk of hand and forearm strains
- ✔ Practice safety measures that help PREVENT falls. Avoid slippery surfaces.
- ✔ Wear proper attire, ESPECIALLY footwear.
- ✔ Consider your posture when sitting for long periods of time; maintain an overall relaxed position.
- ✔ Exercise regularly to maintain fitness and flexibility and increase strength and stamina
